All Things QoS

This Month's Webinar: Medianet, NetFlow and IP SLA—A Sneak Preview of LiveAction 2.3!

Every time we issue a new release of LiveAction it gets bigger and better, and this month will be no exception. In fact, with our upcoming Version 2.3, you're going to see our biggest release ever with some major enhancements and a lot of new features.

A New White Paper from EMA: “Keys to success for Network QoS”

Here at ActionPacked! Networks we’ve always championed the benefits of network QoS, not just because we develop tools for it but also because we believe it’s absolutely essential for your network. Let’s face it, poor network performance resulting from poorly managed bandwidth, especially for slower WAN connections, can seriously impair the productivity and user experience of your people. And that can be expensive. Very expensive!

Troubleshooting QoS with NetFlow and the CBQoS MIB

Hello again! This month’s webinar featured a great topic and excellent demonstration from our own Senior Systems Engineer and resident NetFlow expert Keith Parsons.  Your Cisco routers include two powerful features you can use to troubleshoot your QoS policies. In this webinar, Keith explains how to correlate NetFlow and CBQoS MIB information to determine the health and performance of your network and QoS configuration.

Growth in medical imaging drives the need for QoS

With advancements in telemedicine and high resolution scanning devices, you would expect that these  technologies are putting a huge load on healthcare networks. And indeed they are. But oddly enough, for one healthcare provider, it's the older paper-based patient records that are taxing the bandwidth of the network and its WAN links.

The ROI of Cisco QoS

Before I get started, I must admit that as clumsy as they look and sound, acronyms are often a much more efficient and accurate way to convey networking concepts than spelling out mouthfuls of words like "the return on investment for Cisco quality of service." With that I will still try to avoid too many acronyms while I highlight a free offer from ActionPacked! Networks that you may find helpful - especially in this very tough economy.

The ActionPacked! Networks Web Site Redesign

Unless this is your very first visit to our web site, you’ll notice that we made some significant changes. On September 18, we launched our new look to make our site more colorful and inviting, easier to navigate, and a better source of expert information and tools for Cisco quality of service. Cisco QoS is what we’re all about and our new site revolves around our LiveAction QoS software —a tool that Jimmy Ray Purser of Cisco Techwise TV calls the “absolute hands down best!”

Is Your Network Ready for the Cloud?

Could computing has been getting a lot of coverage in the last couple of years (I guess I'm adding to it!) and we're seeing more of our customers adopt cloud apps and services.  What I don't really see much talk about is how you optimize your network QoS to provide a solid experience for your internal cloud application users.  We recently published a whitepaper on cloud computing network QoS  and I thought I would provide some highlights in a multi-part blog and demonstrate how L

Flowtracking

My friend asked me to name a unique feature of LiveAction so I told him about the flow visualization aspect of the tool. LiveAction Flow starts with a network topology view that provides a detailed view of live traffic flow activity across the network. And because it's both visual and interactive, users can quickly drill down to individual devices or interfaces for more detail. This unique approach makes it easy to find troublesome spots on the network and allows users to fix them using LiveAction's QoS features.

QoS and Cloud Computing Class Now on Video

The growth and popularity of cloud-based applications is a testament to the many benefits and conveniences they provide. Although our focus is primarily on quality of service for the enterprise network, we get many questions about how engineers should deploy Cisco quality of service QoS when using cloud computing services—especially services they don't control in-house. So last March 18, our own David McDaniel, CCIE #20501, presented a much requested online class on QoS and cloud computing.

LiveAction is Cisco Medianet Compatible and we Find NetFlow on the Catalyst 3750!!

Edit (5/12/11): It looks like IOS 12.2(58) SE1 is available for download from Cisco.  Check it out and let us know how it goes!

Edit (4/26/11): Regarding IOS 12.2(58) SE, it sounds like this release has been pulled due to a bug.  Check the Cisco Bug Toolkit for more information.  I will also update this blog post when more information is available.
